Hello,我是 Andrew Shewbart,没错我是一个美国人,我会从外国人的角度,帮你了解外语国家的语言思维,学会地道美式英语的表达。(附有音频)
说到餐桌礼仪,我有很多想要分享给大家的知识。
Have you ever experienced a delicious meal with someone? But afterward you didn't want to eat with that person again, because they had bad table manners.(餐桌礼仪)
I have bad table manners can ruin a great meal and leave negative impressions on people. On the other hand, good table manners can leave positive impressions on the people you eat with.
谁不想有一个处的开心、又很有教养的朋友呢?
I want to help you to understand what are considered good table manners in western countries. This will prevent you from offending the people you eat with. I will share three tips about good table manners in western countries.
In many western restaurants, menus contain three courses.也就是三道菜。
An appetizer or a starter,if you're in the UK, a main course and a dessert. 也就是前菜、主食以及甜点。
Depending on how hungry you are, you can order one, two, or three courses.
My first tip is for when you are dining in a big group, everyone in the group will order a main course. But whether or not you should order an appetizer can be a tricky decision.
Why is this decision tricky?Well, in western countries, food is served one course at a time. If you're eating out with seven friends and only one friend orders an appetizer, the other six friends will have to wait for a while before the main courses are served.
The friend with the appetizer will likely have six pairs of hungry eyes watching him or her. Therefore, it is expected that either everyone will order an appetizer, or no one will order one, unless, of course, a few appetizers are ordered to share at the table.
The decision about whether or not to order dessert is much easier, since everyone will order a main course by the time the dessert menu arrives, everyone will at least have eaten something. If only some people in the group order dessert, the others will be busy chatting and relaxing at the table, no longer hungrily waiting for their food.
My second piece of advice is about cell phones. It is very common in china for people to play with their phones while eating with their friends, whether it's sending we chat messages, checking the news, or even playing games. However, in western countries, It's considered very rude. If you are using your cell phone at the table, I highly recommend putting your phone away during the meal. Instead, Why don't you practice the new English idioms that I have taught you? If you need to make a phone call or answer a text message, simply ask the person or people you are with. Would you please excuse me for a moment? This is a polite formality, and people will really appreciate it.
